Several streets in south Belfast have been sealed off as a precaution while emergency services deal with an ongoing incident.

Police, ambulance and the fire service were tasked to Damuscus Street in the Holylands area shortly before 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Around 30 firefighters, including a specialist hazardous materials unit, are at the scene.

The Belfast Telegraph understands it relates to possible substances discovered inside a property at the time of the incident.

A number of streets have now been sealed off as a precaution with residents of Damascus Street advised to close their windows and doors.

News Catch Up – Monday 29th September

Two search and rescue teams, three ambulances, six police cars and four fire appliances attended the incident.

The Belfast Telegraph understands that one person has been detained at the scene.

The incident is ongoing and is expected to last for several hours, with no further details available at this stage.
