More than 200 friends and relatives turned out to remember a much-loved Birmingham dad killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Balloons were tonight, Tuesday, September 30, released at the spot outside Longbridge railway station where Daniel Hanson, 34, was fatally struck by a car which West Midlands Police said left the scene.

He was given treatment at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital but died after the collision, which happened at 11.15pm on Sunday, September 21.

A minute’s silence was also held tonight and house music was played out later.

Friends and family have left bouquets, balloons, cards and messages attached to railings on Longbridge Lane.

His cousin Zara Wright, 44, told BirminghamLive: “He was so bubbly and full of life.

“It’s been such an emotional situation. We’re going to have a drink and celebrate his life.”

Daniel, who was a chef, had moved from Handsworth to Longbridge months before the tragedy.

His partner Sinead said: “He was loved by everyone who knew him. There are so many people here, it’s an amazing tribute to him.”

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He was later released under investigation while police inquires continue.
