Leeds United winger Dan James has been subject to a new ankle injury setback, with various rumours having to be quashed on the severity.

Daniel Farke was adamant in his stance of wanting more wide options during the summer window.

So Dan James being dealt a new injury setback is the last thing he required, after Willy Gnonto was also recently sitting out too.

Dan James ruled out with ankle injury as Leeds United make official update

Rumours swirled online in the last 24 hours suggesting a long-term James setback was due to be come to light. Some were suggesting an ACL injury. Of course, such a setback would rule the Welshman out for the foreseeable.

However, Wales boss Craig Bellamy provided a positive update on the matter. He shared that it’s actually an ankle injury that James is dealing with, sustained in training at Thorp Arch.

Now, Leeds have shared an official update on the winger, via Graham Smyth. It’s shared that has an ankle issue that is “undergoing assessment”. The issue is not expected to be long-term:

Sigh of relief as Leeds United issue much better Dan James injury update

Losing James for a long time would have been really, really worrying for us.

He’s not looking like a starter for us right now, but having someone with his pace as an option would be huge on the break.

It’s not outlandish to suggest if James was actually a viable option from the bench against Bournemouth, that we’d have seen out a win.

Him being a rapid outlet is something we could have done with, and hopefully we see him back soon.
