Fans were thrilled as a trailer for a new Hollywood blockbuster film shot in Liverpool was released. The production of Amazon Prime’s action comedy, Heads of State, came to Merseyside in 2023.

In the film, John Cena stars as US President Will Derringer and Idris Elba plays UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke. The two must set aside their differences after they are shot down in Air Force One and targeted by a ruthless adversary.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays MI6 agent Noel Bisset, who is helping the two leaders as they try to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the free world. Amazon has issued an exciting update as a new trailer was released alongside the film’s launch date on Prime.

A caption said: “Two heads are better than one. Heads of State is coming to Prime Video July 2.” Liverpool Film Office reshared the trailer on its Instagram channels, alongside the caption: “Was great to welcome this production to the city in 2023.”

The Film Office revealed the productions filming locations to be the Port of Liverpool building and St George’s Hall. Viewers were thrilled to get a first glimpse of the blockbuster new production, which also stars The Boys and Scream star, Jack Quaid.

The stars of the film, John Cena, Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra were all spotted out and about in Merseyside enjoying the sights while production was in the city. Cena, who won a record breaking 17th WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 41 this weekend, was pictured working out at JD gyms on Dale Street when production of Heads of State came to the city.

Ahead of his stay in the city, the 48-year-old was introduced to the Liverpool accent when he sat down with BBC Radio 1 during a promotional tour of another film he starred in, Fast X. The You Can’t See Me rapper was in hysterics as he was shown a viral video from The Redmen TV of a fan praising Sadio Mane after Liverpool FC defeated Hoffenheim 4 – 2 in 2017.

The Peacemaker star copied the accent and repeated the lines from the video as he joked: “The kid’s nine and he’s that sharp. Razor wit. I didn’t have jokes like that when I was six. This kid’s three, he shouldn’t even be able to talk.”

Fans took to the comments and demanded more “Scouse Cena” and the Peacemaker actor has followed this request as he shared an update celebrating Liverpool’s most famous sons. John shared his love for the city’s culture as he shared of The Beatles with his 19.2m Instagram followers.

Idris was also seen enjoying the sights of Liverpool as the Wire actor was spotted outside Papillon restaurant on Hope Street. Priyanka enjoyed a day out with husband, Nick Jonas, and their young daughter as they were photographed at Otterspool Adventure.

Fans took to the the YouTube comments after the trailer was released to share their excitement for the Liverpool-shot film. Alex said: “This looks like the perfect summer movie that’s just meant to be stupid fun.”

Zack added: “Honestly, this looks damn good and a perfect fun summer flick.” Liam added: “Not gonna lie, this looks genuinely amazing”
