A major Bolton road was closed in both directions after a building suddenly collapsed this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to St Helens Road following reports of the incident at around 12:30pm on Wednesday (October 1).
The Manchester Evening News understands that the incident was to do with demolition works taking place at a property on the busy road.
Pictures from the scene show police, ambulance and fire and rescue services in attendance. No injuries have been reported.

Bolton Council says that investigations into the incident are ongoing with a building control surveyor on site.

Local councillor, Ayyub Patel said: “Opposite the small Asda on St Helens Road (BL3), a structural wall has collapsed. Emergency services including ambulances and a fire engine are currently on site.
“Due to serious health and safety concerns, the road is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area and plan an alternative route until it is made safe.
“Local authorities are working to secure the site. Updates will follow as the situation develops.
“Stay safe and share to inform others.”

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “The council is aware of the incident on St Helens Road surrounding two properties.
“We have a Building Control surveyor on site and investigations are ongoing.
“St Helens Road was temporarily closed whilst remedial works were undertaken and is now back open, however the footpath remains closed”.
