MONGIBELLO was a course-and-distance winner for Stuart Crawford last June before being highly tried against recent Grade 1 winner Aurora Vega a couple of times back in Ireland.

She returned to form when runner-up at Limerick last time with her sights lowered a bit and is narrowly preferred to fellow hurdle winner Magic McColgan who should find this a good bit easier than the Dawn Run at Cheltenham.

There should be more to come from Olly Murphy’s top-weight KAPAL LAYAR on the back of his Chepstow maiden success in February when he stayed on well stepped up in trip.

Set to be suited by a bit further again here, he’s preferred to recent Exeter handicap scorer Koukeo. Thank You Blue arrives in good form, winning at Southwell and Kempton before a creditable third at Newcastle last time, and may prove best of the rest.

AILT AN CHORRAIN looks on a fair opening handicap mark for Patrick Neville having added to a debut success here last summer with victory in a novice at Newcastle last time.

He might be able to bring to an end the winning run of Olly Murphy’s Hara Kiri, who has won his last three and will be fresh from a break since his last win at Leicester in December. Baratablet and The Jeweller’s Pet are other likely types in a competitive second division of this 2½m handicap.

It’s hard to be bullish about any of these in this conditional jockeys’ handicap chase but Peter & Michael Bowen’s SIBERIAN STAR, winner of a similar event at Catterick in January, will benefit from the return to this sort of trip and may find a change of headgear to blinkers aiding his application in the finish.

Pitwood Road would be of interest if feeling no effects from her fall last time, with Uptown Harry also shortlisted in an open race.

HIDDEN HISTORY got the better of Aintree handicap winner Wellington Arch at Uttoxeter last time, and a 7lb rise shouldn’t be enough to stop Dan Skelton’s runner from following up, granted he copes with the quicker conditions.

Florida Dreams, runner-up at Ayr last time, rarely runs a poor race and should be in the mix once again, with the likeable novice Bold Light also shortlisted having gone up 4 lb for his latest Kelso success.

After eight weeks off, HELTENHAM shaped well under an attacking ride when second at Newton Abbot five days ago and he is taken to go one better for the Skeltons from 2 lb below his last winning mark.

He can see off the challenge of Doctor Ken, who goes very well fresh and could still have more to offer as a chaser, while Walk On Quest is worth another chance after running too badly to be true last time having run up a four-timer prior to that.

Down in a 0-120 for the first time over hurdles, ROCK HOUSE can record his first handicap success for title-chasing Dan Skelton.

Bashful has been thriving over hurdles this season and merits plenty of respect, while Highlands Legacy could be dangerous back down in distance having not quite seen out the longer trip last time. Vocal Duke, Simple Star, and Cuban Cigar all deserve an honourable mention in a very competitive handicap.

HEART ABOVE has progressed well for Dianne Sayer this season, coming here after a good second at Musselburgh last time after clocking some solid timefigures along the way, so he’s an appealing candidate.

Course-and-distance winner Belle of Annandale is of some interest from her reduced mark reunited with Sean Bowen, while recent Sedgefield scorer Trailblazer remains feasibly treated on old form and is another to consider.
