39-40 Bank Street is currently used as a discount clothes shop following a lengthy period of vacancy.

A new application submitted to Bradford Council by Rakesh Ohri would see much of the ground floor unit converted into a salon, with space for brow stations and therapy rooms as well as a new mezzanine space.

A small area fronting Bank Street would be sub divided to create a shop.

The application says: “At present the subject site is occupied and used as a retail premises which has been recently purchased by the applicant who is currently trading locally and due to future relocation plans would like to carry out the proposed works as illustrated on the application drawings.

“The proposal is aimed at preserving and making use of this historic property to provide a positive contribution to the area as a whole. The proposal will provide employment opportunities to support the local economy directly and indirectly.”

The building is part of a row of Grade II listed Victorian buildings, and a listed building consent application for work to the unit has also been submitted.

A decision on the application is expected later this month.
