A wild dolphin has been spotted swimming with a man near a beach in Devon. The man has described the moment off the Torbay coast as an “incredible experience”.
The dolphin was spotted off the coast of Meadfoot Beach in Torquay by Kory Jamshidi, a free-diver who has previously swum with sharks, dolphins and whales across the world.
Kory said he saw the same dolphin twice, first between 5pm and 6pm on Friday, September 26, and then again the following day between 12pm and 1pm, when he had diving gear.
In a video, the dolphin can be seen swimming around the man during the first day’s interaction, which lasted around 20 minutes.
Kory told DevonLive: “I swam towards the dolphin after seeing it and put out my hand to give the dolphin the opportunity to interact with me if it wanted.
“On Saturday, I was on the seabed waiting for the dolphin to come to me and ensure it wanted to interact.
“The dolphin allowed me to swim with it and we swam for nearly an hour.”

Kory said it was an “incredible experience” as he used the opportunity to study why the dolphin was so close to the shore.
He said: “Dolphins are intelligent creatures and the dolphin was very playful, constantly making eye contact with me.
“It was an incredible experience and I wanted to make the most of it.
“I saw the dolphin nosing around a hole in the seabed and I think it may have been going for an octopus.”
In May of this year, the Marine Management Organisation issued advice including not to swim with wild dolphins and not to disturb the animals.
Kory said that throughout his encounter with the dolphin, he made sure that the dolphin was able to leave when it wanted and said that he takes full responsibility if anything were to have happened.
Kory said: “You got to have the experience initially to learn about the animals and their body language.
“I take responsibility with whatever happens to me if anything was to happen, the UK has a lot of laws regarding health and safety.”
