Balmoral Castle has made a significant announcement today as Storm Amy continues to cause chaos.

It was confirmed that the castle and Balmoral estate will remain shut to all visitors.

The announcement stated: “Due to Storm Amy, Balmoral will remain closed to the public today, Saturday, 4th October.”

This follows the estate shutting to the public earlier than normal on Friday, with guests required to depart the site by 4pm.

The choice has been taken to ensure members of the public remain as safe as possible, reports the Express.

Storm Amy reached Scotland yesterday, with a yellow weather warning having been implemented for the region on Friday.

The tempest has brought fierce winds, with gusts hitting peaks of approximately 60mph in the Balmoral vicinity.

This has been coupled with periods of torrential rain, which has made journeying in the region more hazardous.

The Met Office has cautioned that the storm could cause some structural damage, power outages and injuries from airborne debris.

Residents have also been told that transport may be affected, including road, rail, air and ferry services.

The storm is anticipated to subside overnight, with the warning remaining in effect until 11.59pm on Saturday.

This isn’t the first occasion Balmoral has been shut due to a storm, with the estate closing briefly in August because of Storm Floris.
