The Rice men’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the US College Cup Invitational on Saturday with a solid showing in doubles and several hard-fought singles matches in Torreón, Mexico.

The Owls continued their strong doubles play with two more victories on the final day. Kabeer Kapasi and Rafael Botran opened the morning with a 6-3 win over TCU, while Josh Mandelbaum and Gabriel Porras followed with a 7-5 win against UTSA.

In singles, Rice picked up two wins. Kapasi defeated ACU’s Ethan Scribner in straight sets, and Porras added another victory with a two-set win over UTSA’s Maximilian Ontiveros. The rest of the lineup battled through close matches, including a third-set super tiebreak for Kapasi and a pair of competitive performances from Mandelbaum, but the Owls came up just short.
