It wasn’t a performance that Wigan can say Saints gave to them. Saints were instrumental and there were some fantastic standout performances. I thought Phoebe Hook was exceptional in trying to give this St Helens side some hope.

Wigan towards the back end of the game were slightly better.

The big turning point of the game is when Faye Gaskin kicks it and manages to split the Wigan backline but there is no chasing defence. Wigan go to the other end of the field on the next set, they manage to get the repeat effort after bundling Rebecca Rotheram into the in goal area and manage pause points. I think that’s been the difference tonight.

Wigan were without error and Saints very much took a lot of Isabel Rowe’s and Jenna Foubister’s games away from them in terms of moving the ball around and trying to exploit and play on the front foot.

Full credit to Saints, another great game and as a neutral I think it was a fantastic final, one that’s summed up the year that Wigan have just had that extra edge on most teams in most occasions.
