A rare property has hit the market, with an auction taking place next month. A “highly unique” underground bunker, which is just one of 1,500 left in the UK, is on the market for £20,000.

Agents David Plaister Ltd describes the unique listing as a secure underground rural Royal Observer Corps bunker, a self-contained underground space and and an “extreme rarity”.

It even has an underground room that is described as being “perfect as a private wine cellar, safe room, or secure utility area”.

The self-contained underground facility is discreetly embedded into the hillside – which the listing states offers “a private and secure space with a range of potential uses”.

Originally constructed during the Cold War era, the bunker retains authentic roc furniture and fittings. The secure underground bunker is located in the village of Hallen, in South Gloucestershire.

The internal layout comprises a small access shaft leading to underground rooms designed for operational use.

Positioned on elevated ground, the site offers expansive views over the Mouth of the River Severn – although the bunker itself “remains hidden and unobtrusive”.

Access is typically via a locked hatch entrance and ladder descent, consistent with original roc specifications.

The listing description added: “This is a highly unique listing, as only around 1,500 such roc posts were built across the UK, with many now decommissioned or lost.

“It presents a unique investment opportunity for buyers with an interest in military history, secure storage, or rare architectural assets. No residential planning permission is in place.”

It is located “well positioned on the hillsides of Hallen providing exquisite aspects of the Mouth of the rover Severn” and is described as being “ideal for those with a unique taste for historical relics and rare investment opportunities”.
