Game of Thrones fans are rejoicing after Sky shared a huge release update for its spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The series acts as a prequel to Game of Thrones and stars Irish actor and former rugby star Peter Claffey as Dunk or Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight.
The six-episode fantasy drama marks the third series in Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire franchise and uses his Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas as its basis.
Alongside Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell stars as Egg or Prince Aegon Targaryen, who is also Dunk’s squire.
Here is all you need to know about when the series is set and who it is about.

Peter Claffey as Dunk
Dunk is described as a wandering defender of the realm unbound to any specific lord or house.
When his master, Ser Arlan of Pennytree (Danny Webb), dies, Dunk goes off to compete in a tournament at Ashford Meadow to earn some money, setting in motion a chain of events that will impact wider society.
Season one draws inspiration from The Hedge Knight, the first novella from George RR Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place after the events of House of the Dragon. With the rise of Dunk, the story is set just over 50 years after the death of the last dragon.
Ira Parker explained to Entertainment Weekly: “Nobody’s thinking about magic. This could basically be 14th century Britain.

“This is hard nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It’s a wonderful place to be.
“We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We’re not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens.”
Unlike the previous series in the Game of Thrones universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is told through the perspective of the lower rim of Westeros society.
With very little knowledge of how a knight should act, Dunk is forced to navigate a tournament with no money or reputation.
