A boy was left with potentially life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a tram in a horror collision in south Manchester on Tuesday (October 7).

A huge emergency response, including an air ambulance, was called to the incident at the Crossacres Metrolink stop on Brownley Road in Wythenshawe shortly after 3.30pm.

It followed reports of a tram striking a boy, whose age has not yet been confirmed. It’s understood he was later rescued from underneath the tram and rushed to hospital from the scene with serious, life-changing injuries that police said may also be life-threatening.

An air ambulance, as well as paramedics, advanced clinicians, police and fire crews descended on the incident as the area was sealed off.

Tram services to Manchester Airport were cancelled for the majority of the evening, with the police cordon stretching over the tram lines in both directions. Officers were seen conducting enquiries at the scene late into Tuesday evening.
