BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Residents of Lost Hills are set to gain access to affordable, high-speed internet by April 1, 2026, thanks to a partnership between Kern County, unWired Broadband, and The Wonderful Company.
The Kern County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with unWired Broadband on Oct. 7, 2025, to install necessary equipment and infrastructure powered by Tarana Wireless. This initiative is part of the Lost Hills Economic Opportunity Area, established by 4th District Supervisor David Couch, with The Wonderful Company contributing services, including the use of its telecommunications tower.
Upon completion, Lost Hills will have access to a broadband network offering a minimum bandwidth speed of 100Mb/20Mb, with a 75%-100% speed guarantee and unlimited data. Higher speed options will also be available. The network will feature diverse technology backhaul routing, providing a reliable and resilient connection, said officials. Advanced wireless technology will deliver fiber-class speed and reliability, ensuring affordable and dependable internet access even in remote areas, per a press release.
Local support will be provided by unWired. Attractive rates are promised, with a guaranteed rate not exceeding $30 per month for 100Mb/20Mb speeds for three years, according to officials. Higher speed options, up to 1 Gbps, will be available for an additional charge. Free high-speed internet service will be provided to Kern County Fire Station 26, community centers at Lost Hills Park, and Hall Ambulance Lost Hills station.
Service activation is anticipated in the first quarter of 2026, pending permit processing. Residents can find more information or sign up at getunwired.com/losthills.
