- A royal historian claims Prince William’s recent comments “shouldn’t be seen” as critical of King Charles.
- William spoke to Eugene Levy on AppleTV+ and said he plans to change the monarchy when he’s king.
- King Charles is allegedly not speaking to his son, and is very upset over the interview.
Prince William and King Charles are reportedly not on speaking terms thanks to William’s recent AppleTV+ interview with Eugene Levy, and it’s a whooooole thing.
However! Royal historian and expert Robert Lacey tells People that William’s recent musings (he spoke at length about modernizing the monarchy) “shouldn’t be seen as criticism of King Charles.” He also added that the Prince of Wales is “very close to his father and has been his most important supporter.”
William and Charles certainly spend a lot of time together, but rumor has it that they’re going through a rough patch thanks to 1) a difference of opinion on how to deal with disgraced royal Prince Andrew, 2) King Charles’ decision to rekindle his relationship with Prince Harry, and 3) this recent interview.
Rob Shuter’s ShuterScoop recently spoke to royal insiders who said Charles and William aren’t communicating at all right now, and one source noted the King sees William’s comments “as betrayal, not honesty. It’s not just family tension—it’s about the Crown itself.”
So…what did William say? Direct quote: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that and I enjoy that change—I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, is the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”
