Sheffield United are in desperate need of a new striker in the January transfer window after their poor start to the new season.

The Blades are in the drop zone along with Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United. They are four points from safety behind Blackburn Rovers in 21st.
Chris Wilder was re-appointed by the South Yorkshire outfit last month. He was sacked after their play-off final defeat to Sunderland at Wembley in May and replaced by ex-Southampton, Reading and Hull City man Ruben Selles.
However, Selles’ tenure at Bramall Lane turned out to be a disaster. He couldn’t make the impact he would have wanted to and was dismissed after their 5-0 loss at Ipswich Town.
Sheffield United have been seriously struggling for goals over recent times. They have found the net on three times so far in this campaign, despite having the likes of Tyrese Campbell, Danny Ings and Tom Cannon at their disposal.
The Blades need to bring in some attacking reinforcements this winter to add more firepower to their options at the top end of the pitch. One player who would be worth a punt is Swansea City’s Liam Cullen.
Sheffield United should target Swansea City striker Liam Cullen
Sheffield United could do with someone up top who knows where the back of the net is at second tier level. Cullen has fired 29 goals in the last three-and-a-half years for Swansea City.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him become available in a couple of months time either. He is having to play more of a bit-part role with the Swans at the moment under Alan Sheehan due to competition from the in-form Zan Vipotnik and their new boy Adam Idah.

Therefore, an exit would make sense for him to test himself somewhere else. The Blades would be an ideal destination as well as he would be guaranteed regular minutes as they look to claw themselves away from danger and up the division.
Cullen, who is a Wales international with 11 caps to his name, is a speedy player and would give Wilder something different to call upon. He likes to get in behind defenders and at the age of 26, he will be coming into his prime soon.

What now for Sheffield United?
Sheffield United’s recruitment in the summer was pretty rushed. SUFC need to be more careful with who they bring in when January comes around.
Cullen would be a sensible choice and they probably wouldn’t have to splash big money on him either. He has been on the books of Swansea City for his whole career to date.
The attacker rose up through the youth ranks of the Swans and was a regular for them at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team. He has also been loaned out to Lincoln City in the past to get some experience under his belt.
The Blades were beaten 1-0 away at Hull City last time out before the international break. Harrison Burrows missed a late penalty for them against the Tigers at the MKM Stadium.
