Emmerdale fans are set for a shocking exit as a new star announced has already confirmed their departure. The actor announced their surprise news on social media after just five appearances on the ITV soap.
Macaulay Cooper, who stars as Mike, shook the village with a storyline involving the Dingles earlier this summer. And now it appears he will be exiting in a dramatic fashion, with his final scenes already filmed.
Matt connected with Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) online and shared his doubts about his sexuality. In the storyline, Mike blackmailed Vinny for £10,000 and threatened to expose his sexuality to his fianceé Gabby. The scenes sparked outrage by fans, with many rushing to complain to OFCOM.

Confirming the news of his departure on Instagram, Macaulay wrote: “That’s a wrap! After an unforgettable journey, all of my Emmerdale episodes have now aired.
“I feel incredibly grateful for this experience and this has been one of my favourite jobs to date. Huge thanks to everyone who tuned in and sent such kind messages – your support has meant the world to me!”
He went on to call playing the character an “honour,”while also acknowledging the difficulties he faced due to the intense storyline. Macaulay said that while his character is fictional he is well aware there are people out there who have suffered from a similar incident and said he hopes the scenes helped to raise awareness on the serious situation.
He also praised all those involved with his role, from Emmerdale cast and crew, to his agent. And he kept special praise for Bradley, saying: “Massive shoutout to @bradjakejohnson who was alongside me from my first to my last day on set and made the whole experience that much better.
“You absolutely smashed this difficult storyline as ‘Vinny,’ and deserve every bit of praise and more for your incredible work. It’s been a pleasure working with you.”
Ending his message, he said he had been ready to quit before even landing the role but for his girlfriend Abbie Jones’ support. “After hours of filming the same scene over and over, I was ready to quit and send in whichever take was half decent,” he said.
“But you told me to go just one more time. That was the take I sent in. That was the take that got me the recall and led me to landing me the job. Thank you for being my biggest supporter, my self-tape assistant, and never letting me quit.”
And now it’s time for his next move and while he kept his cards close to his chest he insisted there are “many more to come.”
Bradley was among those sending him well wishes in the comments section of the post, which saw Macaulay standing in front of the Woolpack pub on set. Bradley wrote: “Legend!!!
“Been an absolute pleasure mate. Hope we get to work together again soon”
