A person has been found dead on a railway line near a Liverpool station. British Transport Police were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just before 2.20pm today (April 24) on the line near Edge Hill railway station.
Officers, paramedics and the fire service attended and a person was pronounced dead. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
There is major disruption on services between Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool South Parkway this afternoon, with trains cancelled and delayed.
National Rail said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident, closing lines between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton / Liverpool South Parkway.
“Trains to / from Liverpool Lime Street may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes.
“Major disruption is expected until 18:00.”
Rail replacement transport has been requested to run in both directions between:
- Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly via Liverpool South Parkway, Warrington Central, Birchwood, Irlam and Urmston
- Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria via Newton-le-Willows
- Liverpool Lime Street and Preston via St Helens Central and Wigan North Western
