An investigation has been launched following the death of a man at a prison in Northern Ireland.
The prison service confirmed that a man has died in custody at Maghaberry Prison on Monday, October 6.
It is understood the man had been on the Bann House committal unit of the prison at the time of his death, although it is not known how long he had been at the prison prior.
The Prison Service has said the PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have since launched investigations into the death, which is standard procedure.
A Northern Ireland Prison Service spokesperson said: “The Prison Service can confirm a death in custody at Maghaberry Prison. The prisoner died on Monday 6 October. As with standard procedure, the PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have launched investigations into the death.”
