Chotto Matte has opened its biggest restaurant yet in Manchester, marking its first move into the North of England.

The international restaurant group has taken over the top floor of No.1 St Michael’s, a new landmark in the city centre. The 20,000 sq ft venue mixes Japanese and Peruvian food with bold design, live music and skyline views.

The space features dramatic interiors with graffiti-style art, neon lighting and striking installations. Local artist Carla Raads was commissioned to create a UV mural in the bathrooms, turning them into a vibrant photo spot.

One of the standout features is a huge rooftop terrace with room for 348 guests. It includes a large bar, plenty of seating, a stage for live acts and a DJ booth.

The new site will also debut Claude’s, a Mexican-inspired Skyview Bar. Claude’s will serve a wide range of mezcals and tequilas, plus a menu of sharing dishes like tostadas, sliders and quesadillas.

Two private dining rooms and a meeting room are also available to book, including one with direct access to the terrace.

The menu has been created by Group Executive Chef Jordan Sclare and founder Kurt Zdesar. It blends Japanese precision with bold Peruvian flavours, covering sushi, tempura, robata grill, sauté and pastry. Signature dishes include Yellowtail sashimi with Peruvian zest, Seabass Ceviche, Nikkei Gyoza and Black Cod Aji Miso.

Desserts come from an in-house pastry team, with options like baked Japanese cheesecake, salted caramel fondant and warm cinnamon churros.

Founder Kurt Zdesar said they’ve aimed to create a destination venue that combines food, art, music and design. “Every detail has been curated to create a destination venue in the heart of the city,” he said. “We can’t wait to welcome a new wave of guests to experience Chotto Matte.”

Chotto Matte already has restaurants in London, Toronto, San Francisco, Doha and Riyadh, with new openings planned for Georgia and Dubai in 2026.

The Manchester launch is its biggest yet.
