Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have yet to show anywhere near their best form in 2025-26, with Arne Slot’s men enduring a torrid last couple of weeks.

Liverpool have lost three games in a row, with the Merseyside outfit beaten 2-1 by Chelsea in their last outing before the international break.

Liverpool signed Alexander Isak and a host of new players in the summer, with the Anfield outfit undergoing something of a rebuild after winning the Premier League title last season.

However, one new Reds signing has failed to deliver so far and should be taken out of the starting XI until he has settled in on Merseyside.

Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez in the summer as a long-term replacement for club stalwart Andy Robertson.

The Hungary international was a standout performer at former club Bournemouth and the acquisition was met by excitement from the Reds fans.

However, despite Kerkez’s undoubted ability, the 21-year-old has struggled for Liverpool this season and not replicated the form that made him such a success at Bournemouth.

With Robertson waiting in the wings, it is time for Slot to bring in his proven left-back and drop the new man to the bench.

Liverpool need Robertson’s tenacity and leadership

With Liverpool going through a tough spell and needing some of their leaders to stand up, Robertson is clearly a better option for their next game than Kerkez.

The 21-year-old has started all seven of the Reds’ Premier League games this season, while Robertson has had to bide his time.

The Scotland international may well be past his best at the age of 31, but he has been a critical player for a Liverpool side that has excelled over the last five years.

Robertson’s will to win, energy and tenacity are attributes that Liverpool have been missing this season – starting the veteran against Manchester United is a no-brainer.
