Services running to and from Liverpool Lime Street have faced cancellations and delays this morning after an incident on the tracks. National Rail announced services had been affected following an incident between Manchester and Newton-le-Willows at around 8.20am today, October 11.
It said emergency services were dealing with an incident and lines were closed so they could carry out their work, describing the effect as “major disruption”. Customers were told people travelling on Northern trains would be able to use their tickets on Transport for Wales services between Manchester and Chester stations.
TransPennine customers were also told they could use their tickets on the following services:
-
LNER services between Leeds and York
-
Manchester Metrolink services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria
-
TransPennine Express, Northern or East Midlands Railway services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly
-
TransPennine Express services between Manchester Piccadilly and York
Several trains were cancelled as a result of the disruption, including services to York, Manchester Airport and London Euston.
All lines have since reopened following the incident, with National Rail warning trains may continue to be disrupted, with cancellations still a possibility.
Trains may also be delayed as a result. Any disruption is expected to end at around 11.30am.
A National Rail spokesperson said on social media: “Lines have reopened following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Manchester Victoria/Manchester Oxford Road and Newton-le-Willows earlier today.
“As services recover, trains operating through these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until 11:30.”
