After the likes of House of Guinness, Brassic, DC’s Clayface and the upcoming Harlan Coben series being filmed in Manchester, we knew it wouldn’t be long until something else major cropped up – and we have a good’un on our hands. After reshaping the sci-fi genre with Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker is returning with a new crime series, and the production has been spotted filming with huge stars around Manchester.
The unnamed project is set to be a four-part detective series set between the fictional northern city of Bleakford and the streets of London, following a tormented detective on a relentless mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims. The show is described as a “profoundly serious” crime thriller, potentially a nod that Charlie’s up to something wickedly funny.
Leading the series is a powerhouse trio of British actors: Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, MobLand), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, The Watchers), and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons).

Paddy Considine will lead the series, bringing with him a wealth of talent and knowledge from a successful career, including some of our favourites like House of the Dragon, MobLand, Dead Man’s Shoes, Hot Fuzz, and Peaky Blinders.
The production has been seen filming around Castlefield, most notably under the viaducts and around the canals, giving it the same bleak Victorian vibe as House of Guinness. The area was recently used to film a scene in a homeless area in Gotham for Clayface, having been plastered with leaflets and posters alluding to its location – and the cast of Brooker’s new series were seen donning Victorian peasant attire, although other more modern costumes were also seen, so we’re expecting an element of time shifting.

Other than Castlefield, the likes of the Northern Quarter and Bowdon RUFC in Timperley, Altrincham seem to have been used for filming the new Charlie Brooker series, with much of the detail being kept under wraps for now.
The series is created and written by Brooker, and given his past endeavours, we can only imagine it’ll have tons of nuance, a political and technological edge, and most definitely a touch of darkness – all wrapped up in some great laughs. Details on the release date are TBC, but Brooker promised Tudum plenty of “blood and frowning” when the series finally drops.
