Steven Gerrard’s message to Ross Wilson after rejecting Rangers return

This follows Wilson’s recent appointment as Newcastle United’s sporting director.

The pair worked together at Ibrox.

Taking to Instagram this afternoon, Gerrard wished his old colleague the best.

“Congratulations Ross Wilson.

“Great club for you, best of luck mate.”

This message comes shortly after Gerrard declined the chance to manage Rangers again.

The club is still in search of a new manager following Russell Martin’s sacking last Sunday.

Graham Potter, recently dismissed by West Ham United, and former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, are not believed to be in the running.

Danny Rohl, the current bookies’ favourite for the job, has yet to be approached.

However, the 36-year-old German is said to have given an impressive presentation to the hierarchy.

Swiss manager Raphael Wicky, last in charge of Young Boys, is also an option, along with Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna and former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick have also been discussed for the post.
