Saskatchewan’s labour market continues to show strong growth, with Statistics Canada reporting 19,000 full-time jobs added over the past year, a 2.2 per cent increase, in September. The province’s unemployment rate stands at six per cent, the second lowest among provinces and below the national average of 7.1 per cent.

“Saskatchewan continues to experience strong year-over-year job growth,” said Deputy Premier and Minister of Immigration and Career Training Jim Reiter. “Saskatchewan employers are creating thousands of full-time jobs in the province, and our government is committed to ensuring this growth continues, making Saskatchewan the best place to live and work in Canada.”

Full-time employment in Saskatchewan grew 3.8 per cent year-over-year, ranking second highest among provinces. Both of the province’s largest cities saw increases, with Saskatoon adding 1,900 jobs (0.9 per cent) and Regina seeing an increase of 7,800 jobs (5.4 per cent) compared to September 2024.

Sectors leading the growth include health care and social assistance, up 8,400 jobs or 8.9 per cent, and business, building and other support services, which rose 2,800 jobs, a 25 per cent increase, reflecting gains in urban housing starts and building permit values.

The province has also led the country in year-to-date growth in the value of building permits and recorded the highest month-over-month growth in manufacturing sales among provinces. The Government of Saskatchewan points to its labour market strategy and investment attraction plan as key supports for ongoing workforce and economic development.
