A young woman who was raped in a ‘racially-motivated’ attack in Oldbury said she was ‘deeply grateful’ for the support she had received during ‘these challenging times’.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was attacked in the Tame Road area, shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday, September 9.

She said it had been ‘difficult’ but the kindness she had received meant ‘more than words can express’.

In a statement, released through Sikh Youth UK, the woman said: “I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has thought of me during these challenging times and to those who have supported me from the very beginning.

“It’s been difficult, but the continued support and kindness from members of the Sikh community mean more to me than words can express. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

It has now been more than a month since the attack but West Midlands Police said officers remained ‘committed to bringing those responsible to justice’.

Officers previously urged anyone who may have seen two white men in the area at the time to come forward. One of the alleged attackers reportedly had a shaved head, a heavy build, and was wearing a dark sweatshirt with gloves on.

The second was reportedly wearing a grey top with a silver zip.

In a recent statement, the force said: “We are committed to bringing those responsible to justice and have dedicated officers working flat out on this investigation.

“We have set-up a dedicated public portal and would urge anyone with dash-cam or doorbell footage that might help our investigation to upload to the portal.

“Crimestoppers, which is independent of the police, is supporting this investigation by offering a £20,000 reward for information they exclusively receive that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the rape.”

Information can be passed on to Crimestoppers, anonymously, at crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling 0800 555 111.

A petition has also been set up to see CCTV and lighting installed in the area where the incident occurred.

So far, it has attracted almost 800 signatures.
