Special police powers are in place in Birmingham city centre after a 17-year-old was stabbed and left with serious injuries in High Street

Police are looking to find a group involved in a Birmingham city centre stabbing which left a teenager with ‘serious injuries’.

West Midlands Police has said it is stepping up its investigation into a stabbing in High Street, near Dale End, which took place around 6pm on Sunday (October 12), leaving a teenager badly hurt.

Emergency services were called to the heart of the city at around 6pm on Sunday (October 12) night.

The ambulance service sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team) trauma doctor a critical care paramedic and a critical care car to the scene.

They gave a 17-year-old ‘advanced trauma care’ at the scene before he was then rushed to hospital.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service : “We were called at around 6pm to reports of a stabbing on High Street, Birmingham on Sunday.

“Upon arrival, we found one male patient who was assessed and had sustained serious injuries.

“He received advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”

West Midlands Police cordoned off the area with a large taped off area remaining on Monday (October 13) morning.

While that cordon has been removed, a dispersal order is in place for the area, allowing police to move any groups on.

Police had initially said their officers were called to reports of a stabbing in High Street.

A spokesperson said: “A boy, aged 17, was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries.

“Our investigation is at an early stage as officers work to establish exactly what happened.”

But now the West Midlands force has provided more information in its investigation.

It has now said officers believe a group was involved in the stabbing.

And it is urging anyone around the area that may have witnessed something to come forward.

It has also said the boy’s condition is said to be ‘stable’.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Our investigation is continuing after a stabbing in Birmingham last night (October 12).

“We were called to the High Street just after 6pm, to reports a boy, aged 17, had been hurt.

“He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

“Local officers are in the area, and we would urge anyone with concerns to speak to us.

“Our investigation is progressing, and we are reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

“At this stage, we believe a group of people may have been involved in the incident, and we are working hard to establish exactly what happened.”

The statement continued: “A dispersal order will be in place until Wednesday (15 October), allowing us to move on people we believe are contributing to anti-social behaviour or crime.

“We are still keen to hear from anyone who was there at the time, or who may have footage or information about what happened.
