Sony's Bluepoint Studio Recruiting for Third-Person Melee Action Game 1Image: Push Square

It sounds like Sony first-party Bluepoint is staffing up again following the cancellation of its live service God of War game last year.

The remaster specialists – who haven’t released a new project since Demon’s Souls, but did help Santa Monica Studio on God of War Ragnarok – are looking for a Senior Combat Designer with experience in “third-person melee action experiences”.

The job specification says:

“Work alongside animation, character artists, vis dev, level design, engineers, etc to design enemy and boss-type characters and refine engaging combat systems and mechanics. Applicants are expected to be able to confidently work both independently and collaborate with all stakeholders, while bringing their experience and perspectives to elevate the team and our processes as we strive to deliver our next great title.”

There’s been a lot of people immediately connecting “third-person melee action” to Bloodborne, perhaps through wishful thinking more than any kind of logic.

But a Senior Level Designer role also mentions that candidates must be capable of tuning “key aspects of the content, including events, interactions, encounters, puzzles, and collision”.

Our guess is this is all God of War related, as the “third-person melee action” and “puzzle” references would fit that bracket.

Furthermore, as we mentioned above, Bluepoint’s most recent history has been focused on Kratos and crew, between its cancelled live service effort and its contribution to God of War Ragnarok.

For us, the most positive news here is that the dev is getting back on its feet following last year’s cancellation, and is now staffing up for a new project.

Whatever that turns out to be, this outcome is much more positive than the studio getting shut down, which could have happened after its previous project was axed.
