Two brazen thieves have been caught allegedly ‘nicking a tumble dryer’ from an Edinburgh home on CCTV.

On Friday October 10, the bizarre incident took place outside a property in Silverknowes while the resident was out for a few hours.

The homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims two men walked onto the bottom of the drive and “helped themselves” to the appliance she was planning on gifting to a family member.

The tumble dryer was sitting outside after the resident had bought a new one and had agreed to give the old appliance to her niece.

However, while she was away from her home for around 40 minutes, the two men came onto her property and left with the dryer.

Police Scotland has been made aware and confirmed enquiries are ongoing.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the Silverknowes resident said: “The story of the tumble dryer is that I bought a new efficient heat pump dryer to replace my old dryer which was still in working order and still looked good.

“The company I bought from didn’t offer a pick up and recycle so I booked a slot with EDC bulky uplift which took almost 3 weeks.

“We had nowhere in the house to store the old dryer so I put it outside my door on my driveway, nowhere near the street waiting on the uplift.

“Meanwhile my niece asked about the dryer and I said she was welcome to it if it fitted her space.

“My husband drove me into Stockbridge to meet friends. He was away for around 30-40 minutes. In that time these two brazen guys came onto our property despite my car being in the driveway.

“It’s theft and it’s happening all the time. These guys drive around and go onto peoples property and remove anything of scrap value without asking? We don’t feel our property is safe now unfortunately.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Friday, 10 October, 2025, we received a report of a theft from outside a property in Silverknowes, Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.”
