Tonight, EastEnders fans watched on in horror as Joel Marshall was taken into police custody after his brutal attack on his stepmother, Vicki Fowler, last week.

Joel was questioned by the police over the horrific attack, but in more disturbing scenes, the teen showed no remorse. Julie Bates was his responsible adult, as his father Ross was watching through cameras. Despite trying to lie, Joel seemed to show his true colours to the police, as well as them having evidence. Now, fans think there’s no way back for the teen.

Before heading to the police station, Ross went off to see Vicki, who was lying in her hospital bed. He attempted to apologise on his son’s behalf, but Vicki was left fuming, telling him he should have taken action sooner. Ross later told Vicki he’d have to see his son again – but Vicki was fuming that Ross wouldn’t disown his son for his behaviour.

As he headed to the prison, a teary Ross asked Julie if his son was a psychopath, as teacher Julie said, “I’m not a psychologist. Anyway, I don’t really believe in labels. I don’t see my students that way. I see young people who often struggle to make sense of a very confusing world.”

Later, Ross went to watch Joel’s interview taking place, but looked horrified when he realised his son was showing no remorse whatsoever, and was visibly lying to the police.

When asked what happened, Joel said: “I don’t know. We had a row. She was really aggressive. Came at me hard, and I was scared. So I gave her a little push and she must have tripped and banged her face. I didn’t mean to hurt her, was the heat of the moment.”

When detectives told Joel Vicki had given a different story, Joel said that she hates him and men, even accusing the detective of hating men. They then revealed that they had seen evidence of him beating her on his laptop, as he asked if it was his dad. Ross.

“Dad! You bring him here now! We are done do you understand? We’re finished!” he screamed. “Tell him he’s dead to me,” as the episode came to a dramatic close.

Although some fans thought Ross looked guilty and may try to help Joel, others think his outburst has sealed his prison fate. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “Joel literally loosing his s**t in the police station after attacking Vicku has to be one of the best outcomes because they’ll finally see him for what he is now even if his dad still doesn’t.”

Another wrote: “hope Ross continues to do the right thing by Vicki and fully goes ahead with letting the police deal with Joel. He’s incredibly damaged and needs psychological help in a young offenders unit. Maybe then when he’s older he could be redeemed but not right now,” as a third wrote: “Just watched tonight’s #EastEnders! Those final scenes with Joel were really disturbing.”

However, a third commented: “Ohh that was some ending for Joel! I still think Ross is gonna cover for him somehow though. Also, don’t think it’s the end for Joel. #EastEnders”
