Bristol City have moved to secure Rob Dickie’s services by handing the defender a new two-year contract at Ashton Gate

Rob Dickie insists that Bristol City are “capable of consistently challenging at the top end of the table” and “want to push” for the top six, after the Robins confirmed the defender has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at Ashton Gate.
The 29-year-old, whose previous contract in south Bristol was set to expire next summer, has signed a new deal with Gerhard Struber’s side, which will run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
Dickie made the move to BS3 from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2023 and immediately became a regular starter under the management of Nigel Pearson, a role which he has continued in both Liam Manning and Gerhard Struber’s time in the West Country.

Having been named City’s vice-captain ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, the experienced central defender played a crucial role as the Reds secured their first top six finish in 17 years. In total, Dickie played 37 times in the Championship and scored twice, including a long-range leveller against Sunderland at Ashton Gate on Good Friday.
Ultimately, the 29-year-old’s season ended on a disappointing note as he was sent off in the first leg of the Robins’ semi-final defeat to Sheffield United. Now, though, after winning back his place after serving his suspension this term and with his future secured, he and his teammates are keen to repeat their recent success under Struber.
“I have really enjoyed my time here, and it is nice to feel settled,” the Robins’ vice-captain said of his new deal in BS3. “I like to lead on and off the pitch with my actions.
“I think we are capable of consistently challenging at the top end of the table for that top six, and we want to push. We have a really good squad here, and as a group we feel we should be pushing.”
Both before and after Struber’s appointment was confirmed this summer, City have looked to try and tie several of their players heading towards the end of their contracts to new deals.

Cam Pring and George Tanner penned extensions shortly after the end of the play-off campaign, as did Josh Stokes and Rob Atkinson following the end of their respective loan spells at Cambridge United and Portsmouth. Youngsters Josh Campbell-Slowey, Joe Duncan, Leo Pecover, Freddie Godden, Taine Anderson, Olly Thomas, and Raphael Araoye have all also extended their stays in recent months, as has goalkeeper Lewis Thomas.
With the likes of Mark Sykes, Zak Vyner, and Anis Mehmeti all entering the final months of their current agreements, supporters will be keen to see further new contracts announced sooner rather than later. For Reds technical director Brian Tinnion, however, securing Dickie’s services for another two years is a step in the right direction.
“We are very pleased to extend Rob Dickie’s deal with us,” explained Tinnion. “He has been a hugely consistent performer and gives a lot to the team, so this is a very positive piece of news.”
Dickie and his City teammates are next in action this weekend when they make the trip to Carrow Road to face former boss Manning and Norwich City. Having had the best part of two weeks to stew on their defeat to QPR last time out, the Reds will be looking to secure a first win in five matches on Saturday afternoon.
