A man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent as casualty was rushed to hospital

An investigation is underway after a man was struck in the head with an axe.

The victim was treated for a serious injuries by paramedics near Grange Farm Drive, Kings Norton, at around 4.50pm yesterday, Wednesday, October 15, before he was taken to hospital.

West Midlands Police cordoned off the road and arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of wounding with intent.

The casualty’s injuries were not said to be life-threatening. Officers were conducting door-to-door enquiries and collecting CCTV.

The force said: “We have arrested a man after being called to reports of an attack involving a man with an axe in the area of West Heath Park, near Grange Farm Drive, Birmingham at around 4.50pm yesterday.

“Officers attended and found a man in his 30s with a serious injury to his head. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where his condition today is believed to not be life-threatening.

“A man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and he remains in police custody today as enquiries continue.

“House-to-house enquiries have been carried out with CCTV also being retrieved and reviewed as we work to establish the circumstances.

“Neighbourhood officers also remain on patrol in the area today to offer reassurance to the local community.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on Grange Farm Road in Kings Norton at 5.02pm, yesterday, and sent an ambulance to the scene.

“On arrival, crews found a man who they treated for serious injuries before conveying him under emergency driving conditions to hospital.”
