Daniel Farke has hinted that he could have some “positive news” soon regarding a new contract for Harry Gray.

Gray – who has been ruled out of the trip to Burnley on Saturday with his hip flexor issue – turned 17 earlier this month and is therefore now able to sign his first professional deal.

Farke is always hesitant to speak about contract hopes and is trying to shield Gray from the limelight but on Thursday delievered an update that will excite Leeds supporters.

The Leeds boss said: “So normally, we just speak about once business is done. one of my principles, and I will stick to it. Of course, behind the scenes, we are trying to build also our squad for the future.

“And we’re trying to do some business and trying to do positive negotiations for players that attract us. Harry, is a young player, yes, but we see a lot in him.

“We have spoken about this, and I expect also that, yeah, there are some positive news in the future.”

Farke added: “Sometimes [I don’t] not speak about any special player, because I just speak about business once business is done.

“But in general, it also makes sense, if you announce the extension of a new contract, that you just do this once the player is fit and available. And so for that, I expect also that it’s not too far away that we will have some positive news with some players in our squad.”

Gray, who has made two senior matchday squads this season, is expected back in team training next week. The striker has yet to get onto a first-team pitch since his debut against Stoke City on Championship promotion day in April.
