- Meghan Markle made a lighthearted joke about wearing nude pantyhose as a royal, saying it “felt a little bit inauthentic” and referencing the old ’80s packaging style.
- The Palace reportedly viewed the comment as disrespectful, interpreting it as mocking royal traditions and values.
- Sources claim the joke “closed the door” on any reconciliation between Meghan and the royal family.
In news that shouldn’t be news: Meghan Markle made a joke about pantyhose, and apparently, it has “closed the door” on any chance of reconciliation with the rest of the royal family.
As a source for RadarOnline explained, “That one silly comment about pantyhose said more than she realized. It came across as mocking the traditions that define the monarchy—the very same traditions she once tried to be part of. It’s small, but it’s telling. People inside the palace think it just reinforces that she doesn’t respect what those roles mean.”
To give you some context: The joke in question was made during an appearance on The Circuit with Emily Chang, which the Duchess of Sussex did to promote the season 2 release of With Love, Meghan. When asked whether there was “an inherent tension in trying to be relatable while also being a duchess,” Meghan recalled having to “wear nude pantyhose all the time” as a senior royal.
“Let’s be honest, that was not very myself,” she continued. “I hadn’t seen pantyhose since the ’80s, when they came in the little egg? That felt a little bit inauthentic, but that’s a silly example.”
Totally innocuous, right? Apparently, not in the eyes of the Palace.
According to the RadarOnline source, there had been “a fragile peace forming” between Meghan and her husband Prince Harry’s family, “especially since the King’s health became a private concern.” However! Per the source, making jokes at the Palace’s expense is the “kind of thing” that makes reconciliation “impossible.”
The insider continued, “She’s still laughing at the system while claiming she wants healing—and that’s something future king William, in particular, finds hard to stomach.”
And how does King Charles feel about all this ^^^? Another source close to the royal household claimed the King finds the situation “wearying,” adding, “Charles has tried to take a gentle, dignified approach with Harry and Meghan, but when she keeps making digs like this, it chips away at any chance of rebuilding trust. It’s not malicious, but it’s thoughtless—and the royal family sees that as just as damaging.”
Well then!
