Exclusive: The new musical Roam is set for a one-night only concert production at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End on Sunday 23 November 2025.
The production will star WhatsOnStage Award winner Ramin Karimloo as Yoska, leading a cast that includes Diego Andres Rodriguez as Pesha, Jordan Luke Gage as Stefo, Frances Mayli McCann as Aishe, Melanie La Barrie as Vodoma, and Hope Lavelle as Nanoka, with David Thaxton as Philippe.
Roam is directed by Rupert Hands, with choreography by Olivier Award-winner James Cousins. The show features music and lyrics by Alexander Sage Oyen, with the book by Michael Dovid, based on his original concept. It is billed as featuring a rock-pop-Romani fusion score.
The story centres on a nomadic clan whose caravan breaks down in hostile territory while travelling to a sacred festival, forcing them to confront their past.
Dovid noted: “Roam is a universal story that reflects our past, present, and future through the lens of a dynamic family within a resilient marginalised community… To share a journey that explores what it takes to confront hate, kindle light, and pass the torch forward feels more urgent, resonant, and essential than ever.:
Karimloo added: “Roam brings us closer to each other by speaking to what binds us together as opposed to what sets us apart. Roam boldly examines how far we’ll go to hold on to love, culture and family in the face of existential danger.”
Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Lloyd Kikoler, with Nick Barstow serving as musical director. Vocal arrangements are by Cynthia Meng, with arrangements by Oyen and Kikoler. The creative team also includes set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Peter Small, and sound design by Sound Quiet Time (Rob Bettle and Sam Clarkson).
Roam was previously workshopped with Romani theatre company Giuvlipen and the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, followed by a private industry presentation in New York City earlier this year. Additional book material is by Romana Isabella, and cultural consultation is by Lavelle.
The concert production is produced by Bandits Roost Entertainment, Karimloo, Mercy Productions, Wojita Productions, and AnnJen LLC.
Tickets go on sale later today on the Shaftesbury Theatre website.
