Glaswegians are being invited to apply for a “unique and exciting” opportunity, to become Finnie, the official mascot of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. This is a chance to be at the heart of one of the world’s biggest sporting events and help bring a key symbol of the Games to life.
Finnie, a proud Glaswegian unicorn, has been designed with input from local schoolchildren and reflects the city’s creativity, humour, and resilience. Its distinctive horn is inspired by the traffic cone famously perched atop the Duke of Wellington statue outside Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, while its name is a nod to the iconic Finnieston Crane.
Described as “fun, cool, and sassy,” Finnie is expected to become one of the most visible and beloved figures of the Games.
The successful candidates will take on the role of Mascot Performer, embodying Finnie at live events, fan zones, schools, community activations, and key moments during the Games.

They will interact with fans of all ages, spreading excitement and creating memorable experiences, all without speaking.
Performances may include waving, dancing, miming, and high-fiving, requiring energy, stamina, and the ability to convey emotion through body language alone.
In addition to the performer role, positions are available for Mascot Chaperones. Chaperones provide essential behind-the-scenes support, ensuring each appearance is delivered safely and smoothly.
They act as the eyes, ears, and voice of the performer, guiding them through crowds, managing audience interaction, and providing breaks. Both roles are integral to creating a safe, enjoyable, and seamless experience for fans and participants.
The roles are part-time, at 0.8 FTE or 30 hours per week, with a starting salary of £25,000 full-time equivalent. The working pattern is flexible, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, reflecting the live and dynamic nature of the events. A valid UK Driving Licence is required.
Candidates should have experience in performance, physical theatre, dance, puppetry, clowning, or similar live, physical roles.
They must be confident performing in a full-body costume with restricted visibility and mobility, and comfortable working in busy, noisy environments.
Excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability, and professionalism are essential, both when engaging with the public and supporting fellow performers.
