Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (17 October), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street couple Lisa Swain and Carla Connor could face their biggest challenge yet – as scheming Becky and Costello plot to split them up. The bombshell storyline twist is revealed in tonight’s episode, as Becky makes it clear that she won’t leave Weatherfield without her family.

In ominous new scenes, corrupt detective Costello puts pressure on Becky to keep away from the cobbles – as her presence remains far too risky after her fake death drama.

Becky agrees to start a new life in Spain, but she demands more time to win over her ex-wife Lisa and daughter Betsy so they can all leave together. With that, a big new chapter of drama is opening for Lisa and Carla’s relationship…

The latest chaos unfolds after Costello sneakily arranges for Lisa and Becky’s daughter Betsy to be arrested as an early warning shot.

In a tense secret meeting afterwards, Costello tells Becky: “There’s no coming back for us if it comes out that we faked your death.

“I can only warn you so many times. You need to disappear again – soon. There’s far too much mess and I can’t keep cleaning up after you.

“And if you don’t, DS Swain will have a lot more to worry about than her daughter sitting in a cell for a few hours.”

Later, after time to think things over, Becky shares her decision – with a catch.

“I’ll go to Spain on one condition,” she tells Costello. “If I lose my family, I’ve lost everything – again. Then I’ll have nothing to fight for.

“I need a bit more time. I’ll go to Spain, like you want, but I want Lisa and Betsy to come with me. And I need you to help me…”

Next week’s episodes see Costello begin to comply with Becky’s demands, manipulating Lisa into feeling more positively towards her ex – but will it pay off?

Last week, Coronation Street’s producer Kate Brooks named Becky as a major new villain for the show and warned that she’ll stop at nothing to win back Lisa.

“It’s a really exciting story,” Brooks explained. “You don’t want to mess with Becky. She’s got her sights set on getting that family back. She’s clever and she’s wily. She stayed dead for, like, four years! She knows what she’s doing. She knows how to lie her way out of situations.

“Becky also capitalises on the fact that Lisa’s still struggling to process this – and what she’s offering is a glimpse of the past and the life they had together.

“There’s loads of twists, there’s loads of turns, there’s loads of moments where you watch it and go: ‘Oh my God’. But ultimately, it’s a really enjoyable ride and it’s really exciting.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
