Man Utd co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke during the international break about Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.Ratcliffe spoke on Friday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim has revealed he appreciated Sir Jim Ratcliffe saying that he should be given three years in charge of Manchester United.

Ratcliffe made an appearance on The Business podcast during the international break, discussing Amorim’s future, the media narrative around the club and the alleged decline of the academy.

The United co-owner said of Amorim: “He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.”

Asked if the Glazers had told him to sack the head coach, Ratcliffe replied: “It’s not going to happen.”

Amorim was quizzed about Ratcliffe’s comments during his pre-Liverpool press conference and said: “He tells me all the time sometimes with a message after games, but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that.

“The most important thing is the next game. You cannot control the next day. But it is really good to hear that. But also because of the noise. Omar [Berrada] and Jason [Wilcox] tell me that all the time

“First of all, I can feel it, it is not just that thing that people say, I feel it every day. Sometimes the pressure I put on the team and myself is so much bigger. I know it is going to take a while.

“It is really good to hear that. I think it helps our fans to understand that leadership know it is going to take a while. But at the same time, I don’t like that because I don’t want that feeling in our club. We need to prove that every week we are ready to win games.”

Ratcliffe was also critical of the academy, suggesting standards have “really slipped” in the youth set-up. Amorim said: “I think we can always improve, I am not the best guy because I am here for a year.

“I am not the guy who is going to show the academy is not in a good shape. We need to give the right conditions for all the people here to do a good job. We are paying attention to that. We are bringing people, we are always in contact with Travis (Binnion), with all the kids, try to make that relationship with the academy.”
