The council’s travel team has just issued the latest list of roadworks, road closure and events which may affect anyone in the city.
The measures sometimes lead to road closures or diversions for traffic in Edinburgh which drivers, pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists can expect to cause disruption for the next week or so is copied below.
A parade will be held in Edinburgh on 18 October 2025 by the group, Support Palestine which will lead to rolling road closures on The Mound, Bank Street, Lawnmarket, High Street, Canongate, New Street to Sibbald Walk between 1pm and 3pm.
On 20 October there will be a road closure on Castle Terrace at Cornwall Street for a crane lift, and North Bridge will be closed from 22 October to 23 October for the same reason.
Utility companies such as Scottish Water are working on many streets to repair ironworks or clear blockages, but planned work on Haymarket Terrace has been pushed back to the spring.
And work continues at Silverknowes Road between Silverknowes Parkway and Marine Drive. This work was due to be completed by 5 October but the end date is now shown as 26 October 2025. The carriagewat is being resurfaced and the road marked. The reason for delay is stated as “Work extended due to additional work identified”.
Local people in Silverknowes are up in arms about the length of time it is taking to do the work – and one has said they are baffled by the car parking spaces being created beside cycle lanes, and equally baffled that after two months of work the road looks like this:
On 31 October Bilfinger require access on Coates Place meaning it will be closed to traffic from midnight to 4.30am to allow for repairs or work of some unspecified nature.
If you see anything on the roads which is not on the list then let the travel team know on Twitter @EdinTravel or otherwise you can check on the Scottish Roadworks register which is a comprehensive list of places to avoid.
Updated versions of the listings are posted to the website most weekday afternoons, these can be found by going to https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/edintravel
