Arne Slot silenced any critics during an incredible debut season at Liverpool, leading the Merseyside club to a record-equalling 20th English topflight title. There was plenty of scepticism over Slot’s appointment, especially in replacing Jürgen Klopp, but the Dutch manager delivered in his first season. Determined to build on their success, Liverpool backed the 47-year-old heavily in the transfer window this summer with several high-profile signings.

The Anfield club were the biggest spenders across the summer transfer window, investing €483 million on new arrivals. The British transfer record was broken when Liverpool completed the protracted €145m signing of Alexander Isak, and they also spent €125m on Florian Wirtz. The two blockbuster signings have failed to make an immediate impact, but Hugo Ekitiké has been a revelation. After Transfermarkt’s Premier League market value update, Liverpool still possess the third most valuable squad in England at €1.15 billion and we’ve analysed which players received the biggest adjustments in valuation.

Liverpool: Market value analysis

Isak hasn’t impressed since joining Liverpool but he still received the biggest market value upgrade of any player in their squad to align with his fee. Despite still acclimatising to his new teammates, Isak’s market value increased by €20m to €140m, which is just marginally lower than the fee Liverpool paid Newcastle. Ryan Gravenberch’s €15m upgrade was the second largest and that was a reward for his outstanding form across recent months. Ekitiké increased €10m to €85m with the French international comfortably Liverpool’s best signing this summer, so far.

No player has dominated the headlines more this season for Liverpool than Wirtz and he received the biggest downgrade of €10m. There was huge excitement over Wirtz due to his excellence at Bayer Leverkusen but he’s struggled to adapt to the demands of English football. It’s still early days in his Liverpool career and Wirtz only dropped to €120m to reflect his unquestionable talent. Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konaté all dropped due to their performance levels and diminishing importance to Slot.
