A former Wigan Warriors reserve player is among eight to have been confirmed as leaving a League One club.
Midlands Hurricanes have announced that eight players from their 2025 side have departed with the League One club in the process of a rebuild.
They’ve previously confirmed seven new signings and have now teased that there is ‘at least one more’ to announce, as well as a handful of players to be retained as well.
Among all that recruitment and retention, the club have now announced eight players to be leaving including a former Wigan Warriors reserve player as well as two who were previously part of the Castleford Tigers system.
Mark Dunning’s side finished fifth in League One in 2025 and they’ll now prepare for a season in larger second tier, with League One and the Championship amalgamating to form a 21-team competition.

League One club confirm eight departures
A statement confirmed the eight departures whilst also providing an update on the off-season so far.
The club explained: “The Midlands Hurricanes have had a busy off-season with no fewer than 11 announcements and seven of these coming in the form of new signings. We have at least one more new signing to reveal to you in the coming weeks and – as can be seen towards the end of this article – the potential for up to five more retention announcements.”
Moving onto their departing players, Midlands confirmed that Aaron Willis, Marcus Green, Ellis Hobson, Jake Sweeting, Matty Hanley, Liam Kirk, Brad Billsborough and Courage Mkuhlani were leaving.
Hobson may be the most familiar of those to Super League fans with the 21-year-old having signed from Wigan Warriors reserve side.
Both Willis and Mkuhlani can count Castleford Tigers as one of their former clubs whilst Hanley is a former Huddersfield Giants academy player.
A number of the players have already agreed deals elsewhere with Willis signing for Swinton Lions whilst Sheffield Eagles have confirmed the signing of Marcus Green.
Sweeting steps away from professional rugby league due to family life after becoming a father.
