Viewers watching the ITV quiz show from home were left confused by one of the questions
Lee Mack hosts the ITV show
The 1% Club viewers were stunned as one question in the latest episode of the quiz show culled a whopping 21 contestants.
The much-loved contest, which is hosted by comedian Lee Mack, sees contestants working though a series of questions – from a 90% question that most people would get right to a 1% conundrum that only a select few can crack.
But in Saturday night’s instalment of the ITV show (October 18), some people thought the 70% question was tougher than usual.
One person posted a message on X calling it a “massacre” after 21 of the 100 contenders on the show got it wrong, and another person suggested it was “the hardest” 70% question they had seen.

Contestants were asked: “What replaces the question mark in this sentence?”
A string of words followed – “Hot, hard, small, cold, easy” – and presenter Lee explained that the hopefuls had to guess what came next out of the words “Big”, “fast” and “slow.”
The answer was “big”, but it tripped up plenty of the quizzers. When everyone had answered, the contestants’ lights went on or off to indicate whether they were still in the competition and Lee looked shocked when he realised how many people were out.
Fans watching the TV show at home were also left scratching their heads, with one posting on X (formerly Twitter): “21 people wow.”
21 people got the question wrong
“That was so hard,” said someone else, as another admitted: “Struggled on this one so I just guessed A. Big sigh of relief.”
“That has to be the hardest 70% question I’ve ever seen!!!” remarked one fan. “That was a massacre of a question,” said somebody else.
Another viewer shared a GIF of a child looking confused as they confessed: “Brain since the 70% question.”
Lee looked surprised that so many people went out
“That was a hard 70% – still in though,” said another viewer, as someone else commented on the platform: “Not easy questions so far tonight.”
“I’m out on this one,” posted another fan, as one agreed that it was a “quite tricky” question.
