Gordon Ramsay, the world-renowned chef with restaurants across the globe, has revealed his favourite UK dish is curry from a specific location. Despite his reputation for fine dining, Ramsay’s top pick isn’t a high-end restaurant but rather the iconic curry houses around Brick Lane in London.
In an interview with Condé Nast Traveller, Ramsay confessed his love for curry, saying: “It was something I grew up with.” He praised the UK’s Indian restaurants, stating: “I think this country now has some of the best Indian restaurants anywhere in the world.”
He specifically mentioned East London’s Brick Lane, famous for its abundance of reasonably priced curry houses.
Ramsay went on to say: “We have two-star Michelin curry houses now and I’m so pleased. And it’s only a matter of time before we have our first three-star curry house here in the UK.”

He attributed this culinary success to the UK’s multicultural environment, saying: “It’s down to that amazing melting pot and the multilayered, multicultural environment we live in. I’m a big, big, big fan of Brick Lane,” reports the Express.
Reflecting on his upbringing in the West Midlands, he added: “I grew up in the West Midlands in Birmingham. The community that Brick Lane gives off takes me back to Birmingham. So, Brick Lane, all day long.”

Brick Lane boasts over 20 curry houses, offering a variety of dishes from India, Bangladesh and nearby regions. Favourites among locals include Sheba Restaurant, Bengal Village and Muhib’s.
A number of these establishments operate a BYOB policy, allowing you to bring your own beer and wine. Furthermore, the prices are fairly reasonable in comparison to other London eateries, with main courses typically priced between £12 and £14.
Whilst many tourists stick to Central London for its renowned attractions, Brick Lane remains somewhat of a hidden treasure, serving up some of the most delectable curries in town.
