Manchester United icon David Beckham has been approached to back a takeover bid at Old Trafford, according to the latest reports.

The latest editions of the Star and Mirror build upon reports which claim a consortium from the United Arab Emirates are preparing to make an offer to buy the Glazers majority shares in the club.

They state that the consortium would like Beckham – who already has ownership interests in Inter Miami and Salford – to be an ambassador for the bid.

It adds the group will give the 50-year-old the opportunity to invest in United, having been critical of the Glazers’ tenure and called for the Americans to sell the club in 2023.

Back then, Beckham revealed he would be open to investment in United, though Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover appeared to end any short term involvement.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group took control of football operations after buying a stake of 27.7 per cent in February 2024, which has since increased to nearly 29 per cent.

In March, United announced the intention to build a new 100,000-seat stadium next to Old Trafford, but results on the pitch remain underwhelming.

Despite Ratcliffe’s minority takeoever, there have been rumours in recent weeks claiming the United co-owner will be forced to sell his share due to his clause in an agreement with the Glazers, should they decide to sell their controlling shares.

The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that talk of a takeover had left the club hierarchy baffled.

Saudi Arabian sports supremo Turki Al-Sheikh had written on social media claiming United were on the brink of new investment – causing confusion among supporters and staff within the club.

He’d later clarify his comments on social media, but speculation has continued to swirl since then.
