A very shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported early evening near Stirling, Scotland, United Kingdom.
According to the British Geological Survey (BGS), the quake hit on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at 6:06 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 2. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Killin (pop. 720) located 18 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Stirling (pop. 37,900) located 61 km from the epicenter, Vale of Leven (pop. 24,600) 64 km away, Dumbarton (pop. 20,000) 67 km away, Greenock (pop. 41,300) 67 km away, Alloa (pop. 20,400) 68 km away, and Port Glasgow (pop. 15,200) 68 km away. In Perth (pop. 47,400, 72 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
