Firefighters had to be scrambled after a car went up in flames in south Manchester last night (Monday).

The drama unfolded on Southmoor Road in Wythenshawe just after 7:30pm.

Pictures showed bright orange flames lapping up from a car.

Stunned fellow motorists looked on as a fire engine was dispatched, and a crew set about extinguishing the flames.

There have been no reports of anyone being hurt.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 7.30pm on Monday 20th October, fire crews were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Southmoor Road, Manchester.

“One fire engine from Wythenshawe Community Fire Station attended the incident which involved one vehicle, well alight, on the roadway.

“Firefighters used one breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“Crews were in attendance for approximately fifty minutes.”
