The owners of a popular Manchester-born restaurant brand have confirmed its closure. Vegan Shack will shutter for good in December after six years in business.
A family-owned brand it serves up a plant-based twist on classic junk food including burgers, loaded fries, fried “chicken” and milkshakes and was originally launched in 2019 from owner Dimeji’s bedroom in Salford Quays.
Last year it closed it’s “vegan landmark” on Piccadilly Gardens but continued takeaways from its Collyhurst hub. At this time, the business was also looking to open a branch in Stockport as a second delivery site.
In its post shared yesterday (October 21), the team said they confirmed they had made the “tough” decision to close due to rising costs and a changing market, but were grateful for the journey.

Vegan Shack was first established by Dimeji and Saffron with a straightforward mission: to make delicious plant-based fast food accessible to people outside of Manchester City centre.
After spending his last bit of money on some ingredients from Tesco, Dimeji began working on some recipes and putting a simple three-item menu together.
The business officially launched on the 30 March 2019 via Instagram. Around 9pm they got their first message from a customer wanting to order with the food delivered by Dimeji in his Vauxhall Corsa wrapped in a Tesco for Life bag.

Writing about the closure, Dimeji’s Instagram post read: “After six incredible years, we’ve made the tough decision to close Vegan Shack at the end of the year.
“Rising costs and a changing market made this the right call, but what a journey it’s been.
“Thank you to everyone who’s supported us from day one. You made Vegan Shack what it was.
“I quit my job after doing Vegan Shack in the evenings for just one month because I knew we were onto something.
“Saffron joined me four months later and we never looked back. We were cooking fast food on demand from our 7th floor one bedroom apartment in Salford Quays.
“We started Vegan Shack from nothing. From late nights to long shifts to serving hundreds of thousands of customers, what a ride it’s been.

“Many tears have been shed making this decision but we’re so proud of what we built. We hoped the food scene would have caught up with our growth and vision for vegan fast food but sadly it hasn’t.
“We’ve poured everything into this. Emotionally, mentally, and definitely financially.”
“”A big shout out to all of our staff members that joined our journey over the years. We had the lowest staff turnover people had ever heard of because of the team and environment our staff members created.
“We are forever grateful to all of you for believing in us – a special shout out to our manager Emma. She was one of our first customers before applying to work at Vegan Shack.
“There aren’t enough words to describe what you mean to us and what you did for Vegan Shack. There is no Vegan Shack without Emma.
“Manchester we love you. None of this would have been possible anywhere else. Our last day will be 21st of December, 2025. We hope to see you over the next couple of months to have your final Vegan Shack fix.”
