Leeds United loaned out Joe Gelhardt during the summer, and his return to Hull City has been a very successful one so far.
United had a handful of attackers that were surplus to requirements during the summer window. All of that group found their way out of the club either on loan or permanently.
Joe Gelhardt was one of them. After a stellar half-season with Hull City, Gelhardt returned to Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals for a full season under new manager Sergej Jakirovic.

Joe Gelhardt in sensational Hull City form as they down Leicester City at home – Harry Gray reacts
The Leeds forward’s move to the MKM Stadium came as the Tigers were prohibited from paying fees for summer signings.
It hasn’t stopped them enjoying a superb start to the campaign when many had tipped them for another struggle. They currently sit seventh in the table, leapfrogging Leicester City on Tuesday nigth after beating the Foxes at home.
A first-half masterclass from Gelhardt put the Tigers on their way, setting up Liam Millar’s opener before scoring his fourth of the campaign around the half-hour mark.
Gelhardt took to Instagram to react to the Tigers’ important win, in which Harry Gray reacted with strong praise for the departed Leeds man:

Could Joe Gelhardt be a useful PSR asset to Leeds United in 2026?

Gelhardt, and any other loanee, enjoying a good run of form is only a good thing for Leeds.
We need PSR assets to cash in on in 2026, and if Gelhardt’s form alerts Championship clubs to his availability, that could be great news.
His wages may be an issue for clubs like Hull on permanent terms, should their fee restriction be lifted, but other clubs could be paying attention.
If provided the right platform, Gelhardt could be a brilliant player in the second tier. Jakirovic looks like he knows how to profile the Leeds man perfectly right now, coming in off the right.
