Five people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a flat block in Glasgow.

Emergency crews raced to Hughenden Lane at 10.13pm on Tuesday following reports of a fire.

Nine Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances and high reach appliance attended the scene to battle the blaze, with one appliance still in attendance today.

Five people were taken to hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Police taped off around the back of the building as officers, who are still at the scene today, cordoned off the area.

Debris from the fire could be seen underneath the window in the car park in photographs from the scene.

The first floor window looked to be totally destroyed in the blaze with the walls above charred from the thick black smoke.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.20pm on Monday, 20 October, 2025, police received a report of a fire at a property in Hughenden Lane, Hyndland in Glasgow. Emergency services attended and five people were taken to hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation. Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.13pm on Monday, 20 October to reports of a fire within a block of flats on Hughenden Lane in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised nine fire appliances and a high reach appliance to the scene. One fire appliance currently remains in attendance.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 22.18 on 20 October to attend an incident on Hughenden Lane, Glasgow.

“Five ambulances, a paramedic response unit and two trauma teams were dispatched to the scene. Three patients were transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, two patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and one patient was treated at the scene.”
